Spoiler alert. We love love loved our time at Crested Butte. It was absolutely wonderful. The people. The location. The atmosphere. The customer service. The coffee shops. The stores. The skiers. The restaurants. The staff. The distance to the slopes. We loved it all.
WHEN TO GO TO CRESTED BUTTE
We stayed in Crested Butte the week before Christmas. We found the week before Christmas cheaper than the week after. And we stayed for 4-5 days. It was absolutely amazing.
WHY CRESTED BUTTE VS. KEYSTONE OR BRECKENRIDGE
The people there were all on vacation vs the crowds at Breckenridge and Keystone (anything within driving distance of Denver basically) which has some larger crowds. This made the atmosphere really neat. People were really chill and we loved it.
CRESTED BUTTE SKI SCHOOL
We used the ski school there. We found it to be cheaper and better than Keystone and Breckenridge. The people were more chill. You could do half or full day. The days were longer, there were more hours included and it was less money. It felt like a way better deal. So check it out and compare prices first.
Ski school was amazing for us to have a ski date! That was the coolest date we’ve been on since we had kiddos. What fun!!! We loved our days skiing together while the kids were in ski school.
We found full days to be the best bang for the buck. They were really nice there about letting us check in our little ones half day and if they were doing great they just stayed for a bit extra money and they charged us. It was such great customer service that it made the whole experience better.
TIPS
We stayed within walking distance and it was great. We purchased a locker and walked all our gear over and back everyday. It was a close enough walk and it was really easy. It was also nice to be a able to split up. I could come back with littles who were cold and tired. We could leave a set there at the slopes doing a daddy/daughter ski date for a bit. It was nice to have the flexibility.
